Counting and limits

We count the transactions in the tax year you're filing. Trades from earlier years don't count against this year's plan, and your price doesn't go up because you've been in crypto a long time. Most tools count your entire trading history instead.

Spam tokens and dust are filtered out on every plan, including Free. Staking rewards, interest and referral rebates are excluded up to $25 on Base and Base+, and without limit on Prime and above. If most of your activity is rewards rather than trading, you usually land a tier lower than your raw count suggests.

No. One plan covers your tax forms for every year you've traded, current and past. If you're catching up on three years at once, you pay the same as someone filing only this year.

You move up to the plan that covers your count, and you only pay the difference. What you've already paid is credited, so upgrading mid-year never costs more than buying the right plan at the start.

Yes. You can move up at any point in the year, and your forms are generated from whatever plan you hold when you download them.

Your plan renews for the new tax year at the price of the plan that fits that year's activity. A quieter year can mean a cheaper plan.

Choosing a plan

For most people, yes. Your plan covers every tax year you've traded rather than just this one, and your numbers move straight into TurboTax or H&R Block instead of being re-entered by hand. Long-term holders and people earning staking rewards tend to come out ahead once the exclusions are applied. Very high-volume traders pay more, and that's where the reconciliation and DeFi coverage do the most work.

Often it isn't, once you see what actually counts. Staking rewards, interest, referral rebates, spam and dust don't consume your transaction limit here, and one plan covers every past year rather than charging you again for each one. Tools that count your full trading history and bill per tax year frequently cost more in total even when the sticker price looks lower.

The rest of the difference is what happens to your numbers. Our in-house tax team decides how each transaction type is categorized and treated, which is what determines whether your return holds up. A cheaper form that reports the wrong basis costs more than it saves.

Yes. Base is our entry plan and first-time filers with a simple year pay an introductory rate for their first year. You can connect everything and see your full tax summary before you decide to buy.

Free covers portfolio tracking across every wallet and exchange, automatic categorization, cost basis reconstruction and a tax summary preview, so you can see your whole picture before paying anything. Downloadable tax forms, TurboTax and H&R Block syncing, tax loss harvesting and DeFi positions need a paid plan. Every major crypto tax platform gates form downloads the same way.

Coverage and accuracy

Yes, across EVM chains and Solana. DeFi lending, staking and liquidity positions appear in your portfolio on Prime and above, and staking rewards are categorized automatically rather than left for you to label.

We reconcile your own records against what the exchange reported. Exchanges only see the activity on their own platform, so a 1099-DA usually misses the cost basis of anything you transferred in. That gap is the main reason exchange-reported gains come out too high.

Usually it means a wallet is missing or a transfer wasn't matched to its other side, and the product flags both. You can fix categorizations yourself, ask CoinTracker's AI agent, or hand the year to Full Service.

For a simple year on one or two exchanges, usually under an hour once your accounts are connected. Complex years with many chains and protocols take longer, mostly in reviewing what needs reconciling rather than in setup.
