How do I connect my FEX account to CoinTracker?
To add your FEX transactions to CoinTracker:
Download the CSV export of your transactions from FEX
Reformat those transactions into our CoinTracker CSV format (see our support guide here)
Import your CSV export to CoinTracker here
How are FEX transactions taxed?
Crypto transactions on FEX are taxable under most national laws.
Capital gains tax: Applies when you sell, trade, or convert one cryptocurrency for another. The taxable amount equals the difference between your purchase price (cost basis) and your selling price.
Income tax: Applies when you earn crypto from referrals, staking, or promotional rewards through FEX. The market value of the crypto at the time you received it is considered taxable income.
CoinTracker automatically classifies your FEX trades and computes your total capital gains and crypto income based on local tax regulations.
Do I have to pay taxes on FEX?
Yes.
All trading activity — including crypto-to-crypto swaps, margin trades, and crypto-to-fiat sales — is taxable.
You must report:
Profits from trading BTC, ETH, or altcoins
Interest or staking income from FEX programs
Bonuses or referral rewards received in crypto
CoinTracker helps you automatically calculate your total taxable gains and income across your FEX activity and consolidate it with other exchange data.
Does FEX provide tax documents?
No.
FEX did not issue official tax forms (such as Form 1099 or IRD summaries) before its closure.
However, users who downloaded trade and wallet export files (CSV format) can import these directly into CoinTracker, which automatically calculates and formats your data into tax-ready reports.
How to get your FEX tax documents
Check your email archives or local backups for "FEX Trade History" or "FEX Export" files.
If you downloaded your data before the platform closed, locate your CSV files containing trade and withdrawal data.
If no exports are available, use blockchain explorers (e.g., BTCScan, Etherscan) to reconstruct deposits and withdrawals linked to your FEX wallets.
Log in to CoinTracker.
Go to Add Account → Manual Entry → Upload CSV.
Upload your data or manually enter missing transactions.
When did FEX issue Form 1099 or local equivalents?
FEX did not issue Form 1099-MISC, 1099-B, or IRD income summaries.
Users are responsible for reporting crypto gains and income independently.
CoinTracker fills this gap by automatically generating Form 8949, Schedule D, and IRD-compatible capital-gain summaries based on your imported transaction history.
Why aren't my FEX documents accurate?
Your FEX data might appear incomplete if:
You didn't export trade and funding data before the platform shut down.
Some margin trades or off-platform transfers are missing.
Old transactions lacked precise timestamps or pair identifiers.
CoinTracker reconciles your FEX activity with other exchanges and on-chain data, ensuring your tax report is complete and auditable.
Does FEX automatically deduct taxes?
No.
FEX did not withhold or remit taxes on behalf of users.
You are responsible for paying taxes on all realized gains and income.
CoinTracker automates this by calculating your taxable events and generating detailed reports for your jurisdiction.
Does FEX report to tax authorities?
No.
FEX did not report user activity directly to the IRD, IRS, or other tax agencies.
However, the Inland Revenue Department (New Zealand) requires individuals to report all crypto trading profits and income manually.
CoinTracker ensures your FEX data is formatted to match IRD or global reporting standards.
Does FEX provide financial or end-of-year statements?
No official reports are available anymore, but if you retained your FEX exports, you can upload them into CoinTracker.
CoinTracker will then generate end-of-year summaries, capital-gains reports, and income statements automatically.
